Education

Sarah Palin's position on education could be one of her most reprehensible qualities as a politician. Her record reflects her narrow minded and conservative methods towards educating our youth. If I have children someday (God willing) I want them to be able to take advantage of an education system that would provide them with the best possible tools to succeed in every possible way. Not one shaped by religion, but one molded by innovation. I'm sorry but I do not think it's appropriate to be governed by someone who thinks that Jesus deserves an authoritative spot in the classroom. I'd be very interested to see her reaction as to whether the teachings of Islam or Hinsuism's theory on the creation of the world should be taught along side her creationist psycho-babble. Take a best case scenario of a creationist's ideology. The earth was created 6,000 years ago. Maybe 7,000 years. Scientists accept the age of the earth to be approximately 4.5 billion years old. Where do they get this conclusion? Is it a book that was handed to them? No. Is it passed down from generation to generation? No. They actually calculate it using scientific methods. Their motivation comes from their desire for knowledge, not stories or faith. I've got my money on the guys with the coats. It is irresponsible and outright dangerous to teach alternate theories to children based on nothing but faith. There's a place for that and it's not the public school system. Her obsession with injecting religion into the classroom doesn't stop with the creation of the earth. Instead of adequately funding the public school systems, she'd prefer to give up on them altogether and encourage parents to search for alternatives. (religion based) I don't know if anyone noticed or not, but we're losing jobs in this country by the thousands. Is it cheaper to outsource? Yeah. You know how you fix that? Not by relaxing your labor laws, but by spending as much money as you possibly can on educating your youth to become the innovators of the future. But I don't want my taxes to go up! Want to know how you pay for civic services in this country? Taxes. You know how you make sure you have income available to spend on things like our children? You spend it responsibly. Not on wars and chasing terrorists around the globe. Does terrorism deserve to be taken seriously? Absolutely! But the consequence better not be domestic terrorism resulting from a government's preoccupation with some fantasy war. Spend the money on the public school system. The return on the investment is more than worth it. Students should have access to top notch facilities, teachers properly trained and rewarded for their efforts and state of the art equipment and resources. Anything less is a bad investment. Remember, it's your retirement home. You want it paid for by someone with a degree or the employee of the month nomination at the burger joint?
