Crime

This topic is a little difficult to approach. I don't think there is a political figure out there today that supports crime and drug use. Hell, I'm not sure anybody who's got it together upstairs thinks that. I'm also not one to speculate when there's nothing concrete to go on. Sarah Palin is no exception. Just like any other politician, her campaign; whether it be for Mayor, Governor or Vice President, probably had a few points in it outlining her position against gangs and violence. That's a good thing. (Even though it's hard to curb gun violence when you're in favor of absolute gun ownership) Don't get me wrong, the 2nd Amendment was created not only for our protection as a country, but as individuals and as families. If you need a sawed-off shotgun or a semi-automatic machine gun to defend yourself, you're lying and that's not what our founding fathers had in mind when creating the Bill of Rights. I think guns are a terrible byproduct of our technological advancement as a race. The fact of the matter is that guns aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The key to gun safety isn't trying to get rid of them but managing them safely. Keeping guns out of the hands of children and violent gang members should be a top priority of every responsible adult in this country. If that means inconveniencing someone by having to do a thorough background check and institute a lengthy waiting period, so be it. The purpose of the 2nd Amendment was to safely protect us as a country, not unleash a wave of violence that could go unchecked.
